Kinders 'PutingKinder Lessons

Children learn at different rates. Many things, such as age, attention span and reading ability can affect your child's individual progress. That said, the number of suggested lessons for these activities is a "recommendation."

One-ish Lesson

* Computer Games
Using the free browser "Google Chrome," we will help you set up a child-friendly environment to play computer games including learning adventures from child-safe sites such as Nick Jr., Disney and PBS Kids. These games are safe and educational, teaching skills such as numbers, letters, shape matching and more. Individual games will be selected based on child's age and abilities. Lessons learned during this session include key pressing and mouse movement.

For the literate child, it can be very entertaining to learn to write stories or letters to family members. For this lesson, we will use the free software "Google Docs" to attempt simple word processing. We will teach the child how to open the program, write and (if applicable) print their creations. Word processing helps to develop typing and mouse movement.

* Email
Older children may appreciate the ability to communicate with their friends via email. We'll work with you and your child to set up an email address that takes into account the level of safety and supervision that you require. We'll teach your child how to send and receive emails, as well as instructing them in the safety of communicating in the digital world.

* Algorithms
This lesson doesn't require a computer! Using blocks and numbers, we'll teach your child some of the ideas and theories behind computer science. These fundamentals will help your child's brain develop in a logical and analytical way, giving them the tools to begin to reason through a problem before they've experienced it.

* Logic

Two-ish Lessons

* Beginning Programming
